On to a new fencing year 2025

Dear SCA Members,

Before everybody heads off to enjoy their much earned Chirstmas holidays, we have some important announcements for the coming fencing year. This year will be brought in with drinks at Thursday 9 January, after the training. Everybody is welcome!

During the holidays we have adjusted opening times.
The hall will be CLOSED at:

• Saturday 21 December
• Tuesday 24 December
• Wednesday 25 December
• Thursday 26 December
• Saturday 28 December
• Tuesday 31 December
• Wednesday 1 Januari

And OPEN at:

• Monday 23 December
• Friday 27 December
• Monday 30 December

From Thursday 2 January onwards we’ll be open as usual, including Saturdays.

 

SISTA-US Tournament

Mark your calendars as the international SISTA-US Tournament will take place on Saturday, Januariy 25, and Sunday, January 26, 2025. We invite you to witness some top-notch fencing at Sporthallen Zuid, located at Burgerweeshuispad 54, 1076 EP Amsterdam. It is also a great opportunity to purchase some equipment: Lieffertz will be there with a shop and repair stall.

The tournament lineup:

Saturday 25 January

• Men epee – seniors
• Women epee – seniors
• Youth foil – U12 until U17

Sunday 26 January

• Men foil – seniors
• Youth epee – U12 until U17
• Women foil – seniors
• Men sabre – seniors
• Women sabre – seniors

As usual, we need some volunteers to help out at the tournament on Friday evening, Saturday, or Sunday. Please get in touch with Daniel if you can lend a hand, and thanks in advance!

No increase in SCA rates in 2025

Good news: the board has decided not to increase any rates for the new year 2025.
We believe it is important that fencing remains accessible to as many athletes as possible (loyal members and newcomers) in these expensive times. We can accomplish this by membership growth, by constantly monitoring our costs and through a contribution from the municipality of Amsterdam.
In the new year, SCA will continue to collect the monthly membership afterwards, in the last week of the month.

 

KNAS rates 2025

The national association KNAS is increasing the annual membership rates in 2025.
For seniors (23 years and older) this will be € 72.30 and for youth (up to and including 2022) € 36.15. If anything should change in your KNAS membership, please contact one of the trainers or the membership administrator: leden@schermcentrumamsterdam.nl.
The KNAS membership will be collected by SCA in the last week of December. Should the coincidence of this payment with the monthly membership cause problems, please contact the treasurer: penningmeester@schermcentrumamsterdam.nl.

 

Saturday morning becomes a fixed fencing moment

After we experimented with Saturday morning as a new fencing moment in 2024, the board has decided to include this moment permanently in the training calendar. Saturday is and will remain a broad club training, for all weapons and all ages, with regular special initiatives. Pay attention to the messages in the app for this.

 

General Meeting (ALV)

Please save the date for our General Meeting (ALV), which will be held on Thursday 6 February. We’ll choose a new secretary. She started this job already: Eline Snoek succeeded Chiara Bortot. We also have another vacancy in the board, so if you are interested, let us know!

 

Looking for a new (female) trainer!

We are looking for a new, preferable female trainer for the youth. When someone has a good suggestion, plase let us know!
